Business Administration - Accounting

Future

Still one of the fastest growing professions, accounting graduates remain in high demand. The accounting profession today is changing at a dramatic and rapid pace. The demand for individuals skilled in accounting is expected to increase further as managers rely more on accounting information to make business decisions. If you're looking for a career with great flexibility and skills that are extremely portable, a career in accounting is for you!

Pathways

At SCC, accounting students may choose one of three pathways:

Four-Year Path, Associate of Arts Degree

The two-year Associate of Arts transfer degree with an emphasis in pre-business will provide you with a good foundation before continuing your education in accounting at a four-year institution. The Associate of Arts transfer degree parallels the first two years of a business degree at four-year institutions. With a bachelor's degree, students can look forward to earning certifications such as:

  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA)
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Certified Financial Manager (CFM)

Two-Year Path, Associate of Applied Science Degree – Accounting Option

This degree with the accounting option will aid students in developing skills, knowledge, and aptitudes related to the field of accounting. Graduates are prepared to seek employment in paraprofessional accounting, senior level bookkeeping or junior level accounting positions.

Certificate of Achievement

This certificate program prepares students for such entry-level positions as accounting clerks or bookkeepers. It is primarily available for those students who are currently employed and want to acquire or upgrade skills in accounting.
