"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops." (Henry Brooks Adams, 1838-1918)
Do you enjoy spending extended time with children? Do you like to think of creative ways of communicating with children? Would you enjoy being a team player with other teachers in your grade/department? Then education may be the field for you!
SCC supports two careers in the field of education – certified teachers and paraprofessional educators (individuals who are in classrooms as support for certified teachers).
To be certified, a four-year degree from a professional education program and a teaching certificate from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) must be earned. SCC offers an Associate of Arts in Teaching (A.A.T.) degree in both elementary and secondary education to prepare you for successful transfer to a four-year school for the completion of your preparation.
SCC offers a 60-credit-hour Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree for paraprofessionals. Although the degree includes some courses that will transfer to four-year schools, the degree is designed as a terminal degree for individuals who plan to have a career as a paraprofessional.
