Sitting in the Atlanta airport on a short layover, Megan listened to her voice mail messages. “The plane was still on the ground, but I was on ‘cloud nine’ after hearing I had received a nursing scholarship!” She was so excited to start the next chapter of her life.
As a young girl, Megan remembers her mom asking if she would like to be a nurse someday, and her answer was always no. Working in healthcare herself, Megan’s mother knew her daughter would make a great nurse someday, and told her as much.
After high school Megan attended college in Northern Indiana, met her soon-to-be husband and pursued a degree and career in marketing, not at all like nursing. Moving around with her husband’s job, they soon landed in Missouri and had their son, Jaxson.
As a stay-at-home mom, Megan reflected on the positive experiences she had during her pregnancy. “I started to think about what I would do when Jaxson was older, and marketing was not it. The more I thought about it, I remembered what my mom always said when I was a girl about being a nurse.” I decided she was right. Now a straight-A nursing student, Megan is excited to pursue a second career as a medical surgery technician. “I want everyone’s hospital experience to be as good as mine was.”
