Francis Howell High School graduate, Rachell Warrick, was both excited and surprised when she found out she would be the recipient of the first RUN. LIVE. LEARN. $1,000 scholarship to SCC.
At the 2013 race, one 5K or 10K participant was drawn at random to win the scholarship, and the winner decided to donate her scholarship to a student in need.
“It was the second-to-last week in high school when my counselor pulled me in her office and told me I would be receiving the scholarship,” said Rachell. “I was not expecting it at all, so I was thrilled.”
Rachell was already planning on attending SCC after her high school graduation, but she said the scholarship makes the start of her journey at SCC that much sweeter.
“I choose SCC for multiple reasons,” she said. “It is close to home and affordable. Also, I have several family members who had a great experience attending SCC, and now a bunch of my friends go here because of A+.”
Rachell plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice while at SCC. Looking ahead, she hopes to attend a police academy or four-year university after receiving her associate degree.
“I am so grateful for this scholarship,” said Rachell. “It is going to be a big help to me.”
