SCC’s Center Stage Theatre to present ‘The Elephant Man’ March 5-9

February 21, 2014

Center Stage Theatre of St. Charles Community College will present “The Elephant Man” by Bernard Pomerance, directed by Lonna Wilke, Wednesday-Sunday, March 5-9, in the theater of the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building at SCC.

“The Elephant Man” is based on the life of John Merrick, who lived in London during the latter part of the 19th century. A horribly deformed young man, victim of rare skin and bone diseases, he has become the star freak attraction in traveling sideshows. Found abandoned and helpless, he is admitted to London’s prestigious Whitechapel Hospital. Under the care of celebrated young physician Frederick Treves, Merrick is introduced to London society and slowly evolves from an object of pity to an urbane and witty favorite of the aristocracy and literati only to be denied his ultimate dream, to become a man like any other.

The show will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Thursday, March 5-6; 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday, March 7-8; and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9. A school matinee will be performed at 10 a.m. March 6.

Cast members include: Steve Sherfy, of O’Fallon, as Frederick Treves; Christian Lewis, of Paynesville, as John Merrick; Conner Larabee, of St. Peters, as Carr Gomm; Michael McPartland, of St. Peters, as Bishop Walsham How; Jakeb Reynolds, of St. Peters, as Ross and Snork; Tracy Bono, of St. Charles, as Mrs. Kendal; Pinhead and Countess; Mikayla Sherfy, of O’Fallon, as Pinhead and Princess Alexandra; Brenna Whitehurst, of Wentzville, as Duchess and Ensemble; Karl Beetz, of St. Charles, as Lord John and Ensemble; and Christopher Null, of O’Fallon, as Orderly and Ensemble.
