St. Charles Community College's Center Stage Theatre is holding open auditions for the production of “A Piece of My Heart.”
Written by Sheryl Lauro, “A Piece of My Heart” is based on the true stories of six American women who served in the Vietnam War – four nurses, a Red Cross volunteer and a USO performer. When the women visit the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., 10 years after the war, they are forced to reevaluate their traumatic past. Through their lives, the play commemorates the courageous service of an estimated 11,000 women who were irrevocably transformed by that war.
Director Hal Berry will hold open auditions at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, in Room 108 of the Donald D. Shook Fine Arts Building on the SCC campus in Cottleville. Callbacks will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, in the same location. Center Stage Theatre invites SCC students and community residents to audition. Parts are available for six females, one male, singers and a number of extras.
A script is on reserve in the library. Those auditioning will be asked to read from the script. Anyone with an audition monologue is encouraged to present it. Rehearsals will begin Friday, Jan. 21, and will be held in the evenings and on some weekends.
“A Piece of My Heart” will be performed in the theater of the Fine Arts Building at 8 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, March 2-5, 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, and 10 a.m. Thursday, March 3.
